Character: Gilbert Baskerville
Canon: Pandora Hearts
Version: Manga
Canon Point: Ch. 65 ; Before Jack slashes him in the back.
Age: 9
Gender: Male
History:
Gilbert and his brother grew up on the streets, always treated badly because of Vincent’s right eye as it was red and the ‘cause of misfortune’. They lived by stealing and occasionally were adopted by curious wealthy people. This life was quite the miserable one and really very harsh.
Until one fated day when these golden, glowing balls of light seeped into Gilbert’s body and that day was when he took Vincent and they ran away from the place they had been calling ‘home’ because Gilbert felt that someone was calling out to him and he wanted to find out who it was. It was enough that they were risking getting in trouble but they went anyway. However, they did get caught and as the men started to hurt the two of them, that was when Jack Vessalius found them, intervened and took the two of them home with him. They told their story to Jack who spoke with Glen Baskerville and the next day the two of them were escorted to the Baskerville manor.
This was when Gilbert met Glen and became an heir to the name of Glen Baskerville.
Him and Vincent now had a better life living with Glen and visiting Jack, the two of them liking spending time with him. He introduced the two of them to a girl named Alice, whom Gilbert did not get along with upon first meeting her as she pointed out Vincent’s red eye, which sparked his anger and he moved to pull her hair without hesitation. Naturally this did get him in trouble but thankfully it never happened again. Time seemed to pass and soon it was time for the Glen Baskerville ascension ceremony, and the night before, Gilbert, who had been unable to sleep, came to speak to his master.
Telling him how nervous he was about it and how he couldn’t sleep. He was assured it would be okay and asked if Jack could attend as it would help him feel better if he saw him, to which Glen agreed to this and even said he wanted to be his friend too.
It seemed as afterward, the night went smoothly as could be and the ceremony was set to happen and things started out nicely until everything suddenly went wrong. The details of what happened for the most part was blurry except that the doors to the Abyss had been opened that day and people were starting to get killed everywhere and his master suddenly disappeared to which drove Gilbert to hurry and try and find where he went. He searched through the whole manor and didn’t yet find him, but finally after searching he found Jack AND Glen, but they were fighting. Seeing as he liked the both of them [ but Glen marginally more than Jack ] he didn’t want them to fight so he ran over, wanting them to stop.
Before he can interact with them though, is when he is pulled into Portes.
Personality:
He’s a kind, sweet young kid and loves to smile.
At least where Vincent is concerned. He grew up with his little brother on the streets and he swore to always protect him. He usually tried to take the brunt of things over his little brother and doing what he could to keep him safe. His whole world revolved around making sure his brother felt loved despite the world rejected him though he wondered that if Vincent wasn’t around, if there would be other people who would need him like Vincent did. However when he thinks of it he just gets scared, believing himself a coward and knowing there’s nothing he can do about it.
So when he finally enters the Baskerville household and becomes of use to Glen, he realizes he can still live and promises to do everything for his new master. Someone else who needs him; makes him feel like he’s important.
With him and his brother taken care of, Gilbert was finally happy and did everything he could to be useful. He became attached to Jack as well, the man’s cheerfulness and attitude making him feel so at ease, even asking his Master the night before the inheritance ceremony to inherit the first of Glen’s chains if Jack could attend as it would surely make his worries ‘fly right out the window’. Being at the young age he is, Gilbert is also quite impressionable and curious about so many things and seeing as he wants to do things right, when Vincent so boldly acts out toward others he chastises him about their manners as in their social roles, they are only ‘servants’ in the Baskerville household for the most part so they had to be quite behaved.
He’s also shown to have a very rare angry-streak but it also stems back to his time taking care of Vincent and defending him from the people who judged and hurt them because of Vincent’s red eye of misfortune. As seen when they meet Alice and she says the wrong thing and he acts, running over and pulling on her hair while looking positively enraged. After that, he’s simply back to being the kind, adorable child he is; one who gets embarrassed and apologizes when he thinks he’s done something wrong and being kept up by worrying over things so slight.
When it comes to people he seems like as long as they’re nice to him and don’t badtalk his brother or his master, that they’d get along well with him. With his past considered, he really is just a poor kid who wants to be loved and entirely needed by people, and yet curious about the world. To see if there are more people out there who were nice like Jack and his master. Gilbert would be hesitant to meet new people due to his time on the streets but he’s trying to be a tough boy now so unless they made to hurt him or said something wrong, he’d be quite nice and civil toward them.
Fears:
Not being needed by someone. Everyone leaving him behind, essentially.
He loves his brother but he’s scared that he’ll lose him so he does everything in his power to protect him, keep him safe. Real-world things also tend to scare him, like the entirety of going to inherit one of Glen’s chains. Gilbert would also fear that his master will suddenly reject him if he does the wrong thing then he’d be all alone and that’s a terrifying thought to him.
So is his own feelings.
Gilbert fears them; the fact that he has these ugly thoughts like ‘if my brother was not around, would others need me?’ would turn likely with his master, the second person in his whole life who ever treated him like he was someone. He also has this deep-rooted fear of failure, not wanting to fail in anything he does.
In a sense, he’s also afraid of larger people who will hurt him, and seeing as he will be by himself at first without anyone he knows, he’s going to be afraid of people who approach him at first as well. That and of course, the most unusual fear of cats. A fear that’s so bad that one even comes within his immediate vicinity and he freaks out and will cry. It’s a bit of a recent fear but it definitively still remains as a valid one nonetheless.
Weaknesses:
A bit of this is somewhat headcanon as a note so I apologize.
I figure that one of Gilbert’s biggest weaknesses would be that once someone’s nice to him and gets his trust, he would trust them blindly and not doubt them at all. I see his kindness becoming a weakness, as well as his utter devotion to his master. His age could be used against him as well as he is an impressionable young nine year old who hasn’t seen much of the world. While he has seen a darker side of reality, he also has a tendency to cling to people which can be seen negatively depending on the person and how they treat him.
Gilbert is also the type who could be manipulated and he wouldn’t know otherwise until he was stabbed in the back, so to speak. The previous fear of cats could also be used as a weakness as well.
Mundane Strengths/Abilities: There’s not really much he can do as a bitty and such. He’s just a nine year old. However the one thing to note is that he’s quite more resilient compared to humans. They can’t be killed permanently through regular means that would kill a human. A bullet could be shot into their head and they’d simply get up a moment later as if nothing was wrong despite bleed a lot but that’s about it.
Essentially meaning they’re immortal. though it wouldn’t be that way here xD
Sensitivity/Magical Ability: It is slight but being as Baskervilles are supernatural beings, they would be spiritually sensitive to things and while it would normally just relate to things from the abyss, I believe he would be able to pick up on things that normal people wouldn’t. It would likely have to do with being a Baskerville that would allow this to be possible, though there is no real name to this power asides from this. The only one who would really be the most sensitive with this would have to be Glen Baskerville himself but to an extent he would be able to pick up on things that were ‘off.’ before others did.
Gilbert even mentioned after the lights of the abyss seeped into his body that he swore he felt like ‘someone was calling out to him’. So I believe that this is part of that very ability as normal people wouldn’t pick up on things like that, even if it was the voice calling him to his calling as a Baskerville the fact still remains.
Supply List: Nothing at all besides the clothes on his back.

Where is Master Glen?! Master Jack... where did they go?!
That feeling of fear was thick in his veins as he ran through the hallways, his little feet quiet and almost unheard amongst the chaos that had erupted everywhere within the Baskerville manor. There was blood and people dead – no they couldn’t be – everywhere and he didn’t know what to do other than try and look for his Master. Nothing could have happened to him, could it?
He couldn’t find Vincent either.
I’m so scared. I have to find him too. Make sure he’s okay too.
Frowning a little, Gilbert increased his stride as he turned a corner and started down that hallway too until he heard voices nearby. In particular, one stood out; it was one he knew very well. That was... Master Jack...?
“Why... Why are you doing this? Answer me, Glen!” No! Why were they fighting? No! They shouldn’t fight! Gilbert shook his head and started running towards the two of them to stop but before he even got five steps towards them, the world shifted; like he’d tripped and then Jack and Glen were gone. All of the blood, wreckage and the mess was gone and it was too quiet. Gilbert’s eyes widened and he fidgeted with his hands, looking around the empty parlor before turning to face the closed doors behind him.
No. No. That hadn’t been there before.
How did he get here?! He had to help Master Glen...! He’d finally found him after all this time and now he was gone and this place made him feel scared. It was cold and he was alone, biting his lower lip and fidgeting. “M-Master Glen? Master... Jack? Hello? Is anyone there? Someone please answer...” Somehow his voice sounded smaller than normal, echoing in the large room as he ventured forwards, the quietness making him feel nervous and causing his footsteps to sound twice as loud to his ears.
Someone had to be here, right? He didn’t want to be alone...
